So The Wind Won’t Blow It All Away… January 3, 2009

Made any New Year resolutions? Given up on them yet? Looking for a serious suggestion?
Techcrunch is carrying a story that should have us all thinking carefully about the real dangers of entering the cloud at the moment. The Journalspace blogging service has had to close because of (apparently) a disgruntled ex-employee who has wiped the server. Techcrunch and Journalspace have the full story, but what struck me was that this is a salutory lesson in remembering to back up. Think how many documents, pictures, movies and the like you have stored in the cloud… and when did you last do any sort of backup, let alone a serious physical backup.
It makes me all the more impressed at George Siemen’s decision to spend the year in the cloud to see if it’s possible… me… I’m away to buy a pack of blank DVDs so I can get busy.

I’d'a thunk you’d be using Time Machine to back up all the time – no? Onto a nice little external drive? It’s magic – and you don’t have to remember to do it!
Wish I could afford one… unfortunately Santa was very generous this year and we also needed a new settee…
Soon though…
Obviously you need to retire, or something – or maybe Santa does!
Just working out that I’ll get my bus pass when Paul’s in 4th year. Think it’s going to be Santa getting his P.45 first… ;o)
