Queen Victoria on ‘Fyvie’ with John Brown at Balmoral

One of the most iconic images of Queen Victoria and her beloved John Brown is now available for you to view on flickr. The good news is that so are many more wonderfully evocative photos of old Scotland.
Thanks to a tweet from John Connell I was alerted to the addition of 107 photos from the National Galleries of Scotland to the flickr commons. Hopefully they are just the start and there are many more to come (I’ve noticed a tendency on the Commons for institutions to post an initial batch with the promise of more to come, and then nothing).
They are a fantastic glimpse into Scotland’s past, and I have to admit a certain fondness for the photo of Castle Street in Dundee as I used to sing in the cathedral round the corner.
Highly recommended for all sorts of projects, or even just pure aestheticism.
