TeachMeet08 – Northern Edition!

October 13, 2007

TeachMeet08 Northern EditionAfter a false start earlier this year, there will definitely be at least one TeachMeet outside the central Belt in 2008! Make space in your February for some top class CPD in Perth!

I think the technical term is ‘mug’… but I’ve started organising a TeachMeet to be held in Dewar’s Ice Rink, Perth on February 19th, 2008. The evening will start at about 6:30pm and go on until about 9ish, followed by a meal in one of Perth’s many excellent eateries (waiting to see which is willing to host a group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable teachers). Arrangements are a bit sketchy at the moment, but Perth & Kinross Council Education have agreed to give us Dewar’s Ice Rink and free wifi for the night so ‘Yay!’ to Chris Webb and his team!

I’ll see about getting the wiki and all the other details sorted out a.s.ap. In the meantime, put February 19th in your diary and start working out what you are going to talk about for 7 or 2 minutes!

(PS: If anyone knows of someone willing to sponsor the other essential elements of a TeachMeet, drop me a line!)

(PPS: There is also now a Facebook Group for the Meet!)

Nice one Neil. I will write a post soon. I am hoping to do the same for EL.

    It’s in the Diary!

    Tess 🙂

Great to hear… I’m actually hoping we can persuade you to talk about GLOW… and I promise you will get a chance to talk! 😉

    Hi Neil,
Good for you. Looks like it might be doable from Glasgow on the train, if so I’d love to come.

    Hi John,
Last train is ( I think) 22:26… but there’s a good chance that there will be people driving back to Glasgow is you wanted a lift.

I’m really hoping you’ll be able to be there as there seems to ba a perception that most of these tools are for Secondary rather than Primary (I know this is perceptual rather than actual!)… either way, it’d be really good to have you there as a Primary specialist!

    I promise you a pint (or two!)… 😉

    Hi Neil,
there are a lot more primary pupil blogs tagged on ScotEduBlogs than secondary ones. Maybe the secondary teachers need a nano presentation on tagging;-)

    Hi Neil.

I was telling my Mum (Lecturer), Dad (retired farmer and now driving instructor) and Brother (Guitar tutor) about the teachmeet. They would love to come along to. Would that be possible?

    Tess 😉

    Hi Neil,

Sorry I’ll not be able to make that one, but let me wish you all the best for what I’m sure will be a successful and enjoyable evening.

I know that many instrumental instructors don’t find out about such evenings until it’s too late – it’s just one of the drawbacks of being peripatetic. Perhaps a quick note to Allan Young (their line manager) might encourage a few along – perhaps even to participate.

Fantastic! Great news. This has made checking my feedreader and taking me away from Guitar Hero II worthwhile!
    Thanks Neil 😉

@Alan: That’s a shame! You know you’d have been very welcome. Thanks for the tip about Allan Young… There should be early notifications going out to all the PKC teachers (peripatetic and static!) as well as others like the ICT Support staff this week inviting them along… if there’s room!

@Krysia: Let’s hope you make it along… and this time you need to make yourself known to the rest of us! 😉

I WILL get a chance to attend AND talk at one of these sometime. Unfortunately I am off the week before and therefore will be their in spirit or maybe virtually if its available. Do you accept presentations from far away places?

  11. October 19, 2007 12:21 am

    Hi Ian…
I think that’s a brilliant idea! I have no idea how to work the technicalities of it at the moment, but I’ll look into it (all suggestions will be thankfully received!)…

So… question for everybody… how do we go about setting up a live link with Ian for TeachMeet08 – Northern Edition?

    Flash meeting, Skype, Marratech,
    All are available
